Music is a mandatory course in the Stage 4 Creative Arts Syllabuses of the New South Wales Education Curriculum.
At Irfan College, Music is taught in year 8 for one hundred hours of classroom lessons. In term 1, our students have learnt the core topic 'Australian Music' with various learning activities in theory, performance and composition.
Our students have developed skills in reading and writing musical sounds using conventional staff notation. In practical lessons, our students have performed and recorded excerpts from a variety of Australian musical genres including 'Waltzing Matilda', 'Advance Australia Fair', 'Man from the Snowy River', 'I am Australian', and 'Burn for You'. In Composition, our students have created and performed percussion arrangements with basic rhythmic patterns using modern musical instrument software.
