This term, the year 9 5.3 mathematics class worked on solving financial problems involving earning, spending and investing money. Students had also looked at how the Australian tax system works with regards to how much is payable as well as medicare levy.
We then moved on to the topic of expressions, equations and inequalities. Students have learned how to use algebraic techniques to solve simple linear and quadratic equations, linear inequalities and linear simultaneous equations.
Students learnt that there are three different unique ways to solve simultaneous equations which include graphing, substitution and elimination method.
YEAR 10
This term, the students learn how to solve financial problems involving earning, spending and investing money.
Students also explored the different types of interest including simple and compound. Students then progressed on to the topic of measurement whereby they interpreted very small and very large units of measurement including scientific notation and significant figures.
The students were then able to use these foundational skills to calculate area, surface area and volume of composite shapes.
