Asalamualaikum respected parents and students at Irfan college,
It has been a fruitful first term in Year 8 Science studying the ‘Power on!’ topic. We have explored a range of energy forms and transformations and used scientific design principles to evaluate and calculate energy efficiency in a range of appliances. Students then delved into the 3 ways that heat energy may be transferred in everyday scenarios- conduction in solids, convection in gases and liquids and radiation. In groups, students worked persistently to investigate first-hand the insulating properties of a range of materials (shredded paper, bubble wrap and cloth) in minimising heat loss and presented their findings in a scientific report. Finally, we wrapped up this term by studying the basic components of electrical circuits, drawing circuits diagrams and students were actively engaged in building a range of series and parallel circuits using various component in the laboratory.
Alhumdulilah, we were given the opportunity to have shared many wonderful experiences this term. Some of our highlights include working in teams to design and carry out a method to find out which tea will stay the warmest, building real electrical circuits and competing in Kahoots on energy, scientific variables, and experimental design.
Well done, Year 8!! I hope you al have a wonderful break and a wonderful Ramadan.
Warmest regards,
