Year 5 - T4 2020

Posted by Ms Nicole on 16 December 2020

As I reflect over the term, some of the more memorable moments for Year Five this year have been our trip to the Science lab to make our very own lavender soap.
As part of our research for Science this year our class had been learning about Abu Bakr Muhammad Zakariya Al Rz, who was a Persian polymath, physician, alchemist, philosopher, and important figure in the history of medicine.
During our research, we learnt that Al Razi had invented soap for hygiene purposes. We picked lavender from the school garden and dried it out for a week prior on our windowsill. We then used the melt and pour method to create a goat's milk soap base which we added some lavender drops and our dried lavender.
We learned so much from the soap-making task and most of all we had lots of fun.
