This term, the students officially started the year 12 Standard course with rates and ratios.
This topic focuses on the use of rates and ratios to solve problems in practical contexts including the interpretation of scale drawings. Students had also learnt to interpret the energy rating of household appliances and compare the running costs. We then moved on to non-right angled trigonometry in which we focussed on solving problems involving right- and non-right angled triangles in a variety of contexts.
Students were able to calculate the value of an unknown length and angle by applying the sine, cosine and area rule. Students also had the opportunity to construct and interpret compass and radial surveys and solve related problems. We finished off the year with investments and loans whereby the students developed their skill in comparing and calculating the value of different types of investments including shares over a period of time.
In addition, the students had gained an understanding of reducing-balance loans and that an asset may depreciate over time rather than appreciate.
