It has been a rewarding and eventful term studying and completing Module 3 (Biological diversity) and 4 (Ecosystem dynamics) of the Year 11 Biology course together. Our students have aspired to become great biologists and through their striving have successfully completed the remainder of the compulsory hours of the Depth Study requirements this term. The first being a practice Depth Study task on Module 3 outcomes, which involved a team effort to research, develop and present an educational tour through the Galapagos Islands describing the evolutionary development of species and their adaptations. Students were also asked to individually commit themselves to write up a report on microevolution and diversity. The main objective of this depth study was for students to be given a first-hand experience of the requirements surrounding a task of this nature. Students took on the constructive feedback and used this a guide and benchmark for the Module 4 Depth Study which was formally assessed later in the term.
Alhumdulilah through Allah's blessing and mercy, we have gained so much and shared many wonderful experiences this term. Some of our highlights include discussing the theory of evolution from an Islamic viewpoint and attending the field study of the Long Reef intertidal rock platform to conduct firsthand investigations on the biotic and abiotic factors of this fascinating and dynamic ecosystem.Well done, Year 11 on your brilliant efforts!!
