The SRC and School Captains visited Rookwood cemetery as part of our community service initiative. The feeling was eerie as we entered the gates of the cemetery. Silence everywhere. I began to reflect on the shortness of this life and how we will end up here one day. We travelled to the Islamic block of the cemetery where we began to clean the weeds and shrubs between the graves. As we walked through the grave yard we read the names and ages of the deceased people. Some were young, others were old, males and females, death did not discriminate. We visited each other's family members that had been buried there and read surat al Fatiha. We then sat down and read surat Yasin. The experience was surreal. It was a real eye opener.
