Secondary Turkish students have had another productive term so far this year. Students have excelled in further developing their Turkish through practising speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
Year 7 students have studied topics about themselves and have had the opportunity to engage in many conversations as part of their unit topics this term, which has enabled them to speak in full Turkish. Even though a challenge for most at first, many students did very well towards the end of the term.Year 8 students also had opportunities to enhance their Turkish speaking skills through the practise of role plays and meaningful discussions about their unit topics. They displayed great interest in learning more about Turkey and completed related tasks which enabled them to read, write and respond.
Both Year 9 and 10 students focused quite a lot on essay writing this term. It is pleasing to note that most students have written excellent essays on topics related to their units.Year 9 students' unit on 'Education' was very relevant to them and linked very well with their careers expo excursion this term. Students were able to discuss future study goals and career paths with their peers fluently in Turkish.
Learning about The Conquest of Istanbul was the highlight for Year 10 students. As they learnt, they were inspired by Fatih Sultan Mehmed's determination during the conquest where Mehmed the Conqueror and his heroic soldiers who have been praised by our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) conquered Istanbul in 1453.
I look forward to Term 3 and wish everyone a safe and restful break InshaAllah.
