Asalamu alaikum Dear Families,
Year 7
This term, Year 7 have worked hard as they had unpacked the key theme- ‘Tahara’ (Purification from an Islamic Worldview). As we know, purity is an essential aspect of Islam and its opposite is ‘najása’ (the state of being ritually impure).
Year 7 had analysed the types of water utilised for wudu and ghusl (as well the fardh and sunnah acts of each ritual). We had also covered how to perform tayammum and when one must do so.
I am pleased with the efforts displayed not only in class but with each personal presentation. It is wonderful to see how well you are all settling into high school routine and embracing this new chapter, alhumdulilah.
Year 8
Year 8 continue to strive for their personal best as we had participated in Project Based Learning this term. The Islamic Studies theme for the term had focused on Fasting. Students had studied the detailed law with how, why and who fasts. We had also explored the inner and outer spiritual dimensions of fasting- inspired by the works of Imam Al Ghazali. I leave you with one of his quotes to ponder about:
“Praise be to God who bestowed upon His servants an immense blessing when He shielded them from ruses and artifices of Satan and thwarted his hopes and designs. For He made fasting a citadel and a shelter for His friends, opened to them thereby the gates of heaven, and gave them thereby the gates of heaven, and gave them the knowledge that Satan enters their hearts through hidden appetites, and by curbing those appetites, the soul at peace might subdue its adversary”
Year 9
This term, we were blessed with the ability to unpack the Early Medinan Period within the Sira of the Prophet (pbuh). A critical period that marks the first year of the Hijri calendar as the serious foundation of Islamic civilisation had commenced. Year 9 had also analysed the battles during this period and spiritually reflected on the messages of the many incidences that had occurred. I am pleased with the level of maturity and deep thought displayed in class as we analyse why the study of the Sira truly matters and how the events that had taken place in the past, really impacts us to this day.
Furthermore, Year 9 have left me impressed with their detailed comparative reports on migration based on their ancestors’ journeys and the beloved Prophet’s (pbuh) migration from Mecca to Medina. It was a pleasure to read all the heart-felt interviews and I must admit they had left me truly humbled. I pray that Allah (swt) blesses all your families, past and present and pray that we continue to flourish as a community that leaves a positive impact within this Nation and beyond.
Year 10
This term, we had continued the ‘Why Islam is True’ program, this time, focusing on the wisdom behind pain and suffering, how to analyse and respond to ‘Loaded Questions’ about God and understanding our true purpose in life.
Year 10 have seriously impressed me with their presentations on each topic- I exuberate over the talent the class have displayed over the last few weeks and feel optimistic at the future ahead as each member of the class mature into individuals that will serve our community with positive force, insha’Allah. Utilise your wisdom for good and continue to ask Allah (swt) for guidance.
I pray you have a well-deserved and restful break.
