Secondary English T3 2020

  • Year 8 students studied, drafted and performed their own slam poems this term. The poems were on a variety of social justice issues including islamophobia, terrorism and the black lives matter movement. Their passion and energy truly shook the hearts and minds of the audience.
  • Year 10 students reflected on the way composers manipulated their audiences through their film study of Hurricane through their presentations. Students showed a deep interested in the way the context of the current black livers matter movement can be partly traced through the 1960s in America, being the time of the Rubin Carter's initial conviction.
  • Year 11 Advanced English were immersed in their studies of Shakespeare's Othello, appreciating how the play is relevant to modern life. They rose to meet the challenge of their yearly exams before they begin their Year 12 HSC journey.
  • Year 11 Extension 1 English completed their study of Post-Colonialism through their reading and analysis of 'Heart of Darkness', 'The Autobiography of Malcolm X' and their viewing of 'Apocalypse Now'.  They appreciated the ways texts explore core issues of race and power across periods of time.
