PDHPE/SPORT T4 2019

Posted by Mr Said on 1 January 2020
Dear Parents, Caregivers, Students and Community Members,
Assalamu-Alaikum,

Term four entailed many new, exciting opportunities and learning which took place for students in secondary school.
Our secondary students competed in sporting competitions in Term 4, such as the Athletics Carnival which was held on Friday 25 October 2019. With temperatures soaring to 35 Degrees Celsius, our brave students across Primary and Secondary, competed to the best of their ability. A massive congratulations to Team Mecca who were the Athletics Carnival Champions in 2019!

On Wednesday 30 October, our Irfan College Secondary female students attended the Go Active Sport, Health Education SUMMIT held at the Western Sydney University Milperra Campus. There were keynote speakers and workshops on the day. The objectives of the SHE Summit were to;

To enable young women to gain tools to actively engage and achieve their optimal holistic health. Empower young women and build their capacity to become role models in the community. Inspire young women to pursue their dreams by hearing amazing stories of other women who have broken down barriers and followed theirs. Connects young women to positive female role models on a local and global scale.

A Running Club was included as part of our Thursday Sports Program in Term 4, led by Triathlete, Mr Dominic who was assisted by Ms Elif. This was designed for students who wish to increase their cardiovascular endurance and fitness. Fantastic effort from our students who increased their cardiorespiratory endurance by running up to 4km!

Our Year 9 PASS students completed their six-week NRL In League Harmony Program. The NRL's In League In Harmony (ILIH) program aims to promote social cohesion by addressing issues such as social disengagement, racism, gender inequality and bullying; empowering youth to be agents of change for a more cohesive society. This is achieved through theory-based and practical activities.

Year 7 students studied a range of health units including 'Positive Relationships' and Year 8 students 'What's the risk'. Within the physical education program, units including Athletics and Fitness was the focus.

Within the physical education program for Year 9, students participated in a variety of activities such as Cricket and Year 10 students participated in activities such as Ball Games.  Students from Year 9 and 10 studied a range of health units such as 'Physical Activity for me' and 'Support Yourself'.

A few reminders also:

All students must have a hat and dressed in full sports uniform for all P.E lessons.
Please try to limit the amount of junk food you are packing in your child/s lunch box. Fresh fruit, vegetables and healthy wraps, sandwiches and/or meal options are what young people need to grow.
Homework will be given on a weekly basis on Google Classroom. Please check your child/s diary and Google Classroom for updates on homework and set tasks.

Inshallah you all have a restful holiday with family and friends. I look forward to a fantastic 2020 with our amazing students and staff.

Wasalam,

Mr Said Kabalan
