It has been a productive term for all students. Year 7 students have been learning about landscapes and landforms and their importance in the world. Students have recently looked at how people negatively impact out landscapes through things like mining, deforestation and pollution. They also looked at a number of natural disasters and how they occur. Some natural disasters they studied included sinkholes, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and tsunamis.

Year 8 have been very interested to learn about water in the world. This topic was relatable to the students because they learnt how much water they used daily both directly and indirectly. They were especially interested to learn about virtual water in which they found out that it takes 1700 litres of water to make 1 chocolate bar takes and 1 pair of jeans takes 7000 litres of water to make.

Year 9 have been studying sustainable biomes- Tundra, rainforest, savanna, oceans and alpines in particular. They have been looking at what makes a biome unique like its climate, precipitation, flora, fauna and the adaptations that the plants and animals have made to the biome they live in. Students learnt specifically about the Amazon Rainforest and how there are still native tribes who live there and use this rainforest for every aspect of their life.

Year 10 focused on environmental change and management in which they looked at human induced environmental changes such as plastic pollution and coral bleaching. They were particularly interested in coral reefs and the specific condition in which they can survive. Students moved on to look at coastal environments, specifically looking at the coastal processes that form our coastal environments such as beaches, bays, headlands, caves, arches and stumps.

Year 11 Ancient history focused on death and funerary customs in old Kingdom Egypt before their Yearly Examinations. Students looked at the forms of burial, funeral processions and rituals that were carried out during this time. Students looked at continuity and change such as the burial went from being in mastabas to pyramids, however there was a big difference between the burial of a person of the royal/ upper class to the lower class.
