Year 9 students considered the timeless nature of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet by exploring the key concerns of conflict and love. Students viewed the Sport for Jove’s rendition at the Seymour Theatre before composing an analytical essay and composing their own modern adaptation.
Year 10 students analysed and critiqued representations of Australian and Indigenous culture within the Kate Grenville’s The Secret River. This guided students in exposing underlying assumptions around Australian Identity and the role that context of the author as well as history and politics plays in shaping this idea of being Australian. Students drew on these understandings to compose their own discursive piece as well as their own video exploring the question “What does it mean to be Australian?’
Year 11 Advanced English were immersed in their studies of Shakespeare’s Othello, appreciating how the play is relevant to modern life. Students undertook a critical study of the play to explore both notions of Textual Integrity as well as the perspectives of others.
Year 12 Advanced and Extension 1 English wrapped up the English course with intensive exam revision that culminated in two sets of trial examinations in preparation for the final set of exams for their secondary education.
