This term, the students learnt how to calculate the area, surface area and volume of composite shapes and prisms. Students applied formulas to find the volumes of right pyramids, cones, spheres and other related composite solids.
The students then moved on to Indices and surds which solidified their basic foundational skills of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. Students were able to apply the different index laws in order to operate with algebraic expressions. Students were then able to take this knowledge and interpret very small and very large units of measurements using scientific notations rounding to significant figures.
Finally, the students worked through properties of geometrical figures whereby they described and used the properties of triangles and quadrilaterals, and determined congruent triangles to find unknown side lengths and angles. Students enjoyed proving congruency and similarity as it challenged their abstract thinking and reasoning skills.
